What is Stainless Steel 316L Seamless Pipe?
Stainless steel 316L seamless pipe is the low-carbon version of Grade 316, manufactured under ASTM A312 as TP316L with the UNS designation S31603. It contains 2.0–3.0% molybdenum, which improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion compared with 304L in many chloride-containing and chemical-processing environments.
The reduced carbon content limits chromium carbide precipitation during welding, improving resistance to intergranular corrosion in the heat-affected zone. This makes ASTM A312 TP316L seamless pipe particularly suitable for extensively welded piping systems or installations where post-weld solution heat treatment is impractical. Its seamless production doesn’t contain a longitudinal weld seam and provides a continuous pipe wall for industrial fluid-transfer systems.
