What is Stainless Steel 316 Seamless Pipe?
Stainless steel 316 seamless pipe is manufactured from a solid TP316 billet through heating, piercing, cold drawing or cold rolling, solution annealing, pickling, straightening, and final inspection. Grade 316 is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel containing 2.0–3.0% molybdenum. Compared with Grade 304, the molybdenum addition improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in many chloride-containing and industrial environments especially for application in sea water.
Manufactured not containing a longitudinal weld seam, ASTM A312 316 seamless pipe is commonly used in industrial fluid-transfer lines with higher pressure property than welded pipes. SS 316 seamless pipe undergo more rigorous inspection and test to make them run safely.
How is Stainless Steel 316 Seamless Pipe Manufactured?
316 stainless steel seamless pipe begins with a solid TP316 billet whose controlled carbon content is verified before production. The billet is heated and pierced into a hollow section, then cold drawn or cold rolled to achieve the specified outside diameter and wall thickness. After forming, the pipe is cut to length, pickled, and inspected for dimensional accuracy, mechanical properties, and material traceability.
